Every great safari begins with a single conversation. Whenever you’re ready, we’re here.

See Africa the way we see it, through the eyes of people who never stopped looking.

We only work in wild places we’re committed to protecting. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Honest answers to the questions worth asking before you go.

The Congo Basin Expedition

The Congo Basin is a different register of wilderness altogether. Humid, layered, green and often beautifully difficult to read, it is one of the few intact tropical forest systems and home to wildlife that exists nowhere else. The Congo Basin shelters western lowland gorillas, forest elephants and mineral-rich clearings known as bais, where the rainforest briefly opens and life gathers in concentrations.

Two remarkable forest strongholds

We see this expedition as a powerful pairing: In Odzala-Kokoua, in the Republic of Congo, you enter one of the Congo Basin’s great intact forest systems, known for western lowland gorillas and bais. In Dzanga-Sangha, in the Central African Republic, the celebrated Dzanga Bai offers one of Central Africa’s most extraordinary forest elephant gatherings. The forest operates on its own terms, and the reward comes to those who enter it with patience and curiosity.

The sounds, the smells, the humidity, and the extraordinary biological richness of a forest that has remained largely intact for millennia create an experience that is unlike anything else in wildlife travel. Encounters here feel earned in a way that stays with people long after they return home. These are not experiences that can be replicated elsewhere or approached with the same expectations as a savannah safari.

For the right traveller, the Congo Basin offers something that no other destination can replicate. It is one of the world’s great conservation landscapes, and the tourism that responsible travel generates here plays a direct and meaningful role in protecting it. By choosing to travel here, you are making a genuine contribution to the future of a forest that the world cannot afford to lose.

What makes this journey especially compelling is that tourism here is closely tied to protection and community benefit. In Dzanga-Sangha, part of the fee for gorilla visits goes directly to local communities, helping make intact forest worth more standing than lost.

This is not a place for hurried itineraries or generic safari thinking. Access, logistics, guiding and expectations all need careful handling by people who know the forest and have the relationships on the ground to make the journey work properly. The operators we recommend here have spent years building that knowledge and those relationships, and we apply the same rigorous standards to every Congo Basin expedition we plan.
